Solo

Solo

A solo is a piece or a section of a piece played or sung by a single performer. In practice this means a number of different things, depending on the type of music and the context. Also used for the act of performing a solo, and sometimes for the performer (more often a soloist).

Educational Elements:

  • Timbre, through the differences between the steel guitar and electric guitar
  • Dynamics – the children in class experiment with strumming the guitar louder. Dynamics are also explored through the differences between electric and acoustic guitar.
  • Collaboration (again!)
  • Melody (solo)
  • Call and response

Musical Concepts Solo

When one voice or instrument sings or plays a melody or a piece independently. A Solo can be accompanied with complimentary music but the Soloist sings or plays their part alone.
