An upright bass with all the qualities befitting that description, RC is a backing instrument extraordinaire. This cool, confident instrument is the JAZZBERRY equivalent of a professional studio player; solid and steady, with no burning desire for the spotlight. He's the backbone of the group, the one who has his pulse on what's happening. And like a real-life bass, RC always keeps his bandmates in step.
RC is the calm, quiet type who generally keeps to himself. The exception to this is at the end of an exchange between other characters, when RC might chime in with one of his patented droll quips. RC's voice is low compared to his bandmates, but it's also tuneful and melodic. It's a voice made for reading bedtime stories; hypnotic and relaxing.
As an observer and straight man to the goings-on, RC is often bemused by things that the other instruments get flustered about. Wisdom is RC's calling card, and while he possesses it in droves, he's not one to dispense advice ad nauseum. That's because RC doesn't talk a whole lot. But when he does, everybody listens. RC is an uncle-type character, the kind you trust with your grievances. But while he always provides a willing ear, RC's responses are Socratic in nature, often in the form of another question, and always utilizing musical analogies. His lack of on-the-nose advice-giving forces other instruments to think about their problems in an entirely new way.
Laid-back and reasonable, RC never rushes to judgment, often taking his time to formulate his responses. This sometimes frustrates the other, more impulsive RAZZBERRY JAZZBERRIES, but if they are patient enough to wait for his two cents, they find that he's usually right. RC takes most everything in stride, but he does have a hard time laughing at his own mistakes. He'll either ignore them, pretend they didn't happen, or shrug them off. These rare moments when RC gets flustered, Buddy and Krupa leap on the chance to have a few chuckles at the usually unflappable bass' expense.
Possibly the most self-sufficient instrument in the band, RC is equally happy playing on his own or in collaboration with the others.
