Ella

An upright piano who's full of zest, ELLA is the musical personification of a sweeping orchestral movement, the kind that wraps you up in intense feelings and refuses to let go. Ella is a highly emotional instrument who always lives in the moment.

More than any other RAZZBERRY JAZZBERRY, Ella wants her bandmates to get along. She loathes discord, and will do everything in her power to eliminate strife. This has made Ella the unofficial mother-figure of the band, its emotional bellwether. A natural diplomat, she's great at getting others to see the value of compromise. And when it comes to interacting with guest instruments, Ella is the ideal ambassador for the band.

Having been friends long before the Jam brought everybody together, Ella and Louis share a special bond in terms of experience and leadership. But whereas Louis is a practical problem-solver, Ella tries to understand others' feelings as a way to make them feel better about themselves and solve their problems that way. Ella is the kind of friend who makes others want to unburden themselves to her, with her protective, caring responses making them feel like she's truly relating to their problem.

Ella's emotional sensitivity can occasionally be her undoing. While she always strives for happiness – her tinkling laugh would brighten anyone's day - when she hits a rare low patch, it hits her hard. In moments like these, you can expect the kind of melodrama from Ella that makes opera performers blush. More often than not however, these low points quickly pass, and Ella returns to her infectiously cheery self.

Being the largest instrument, Ella sometimes finds herself in awkward spots compared to her smaller, more maneuverable bandmates. This can occasionally make her a little self-conscious. But her size is never an issue to her friends. They know that instruments come in all shapes and sizes, and the rare moment where Ella gets frustrated about her size, they remind her of that. More often than not, her larger size is a benefit in some way.

Ella has the greatest range of all the instruments, and she knows how to use it to great effect. She's been known to break into runs of scatting, depending on how excited or flustered she gets. Musically, she and Louis love to challenge each other, raising their collaboration to fantastic heights that inspire their bandmates to do the same.
